I know Beckham has been hitting well but does anyone know how he’s looked defensively? Does he look to have the potential to play a major league SS or is he more of a B.J. Upton type?

I have seen Beckham play about 70 games this year. I would be very surprised if He ever makes the bigs as an infielder. At this time He has committed 40 errors and if it wasn’t for an extremely good fielding first baseman He could have several more throwing errors. On top of that He doesn’t have good range. His base stealing is suspect as He is only 13 for 23 and continually goes to sleep on the base paths and gets picked off. He is hitting in the high 270′s which is no better than average.

He may be one of the top prospects in the Rays system and I am sure they will keep him on the list if for no other reason than the 6.2 million they have invested. From what I have seen He doesn’t have what it takes to be in the show.
