Notes from Down on the Farm

  • Jake McGee made his second start in the Gulf Coast League and we’d have to say that his arm looks to be healthy based on the starts. [Rays Prospects]
  • Jeremy Hellickson, Desmond Jennings, Eddie Morlan and Rhyne Hughes have all been named to the Southern League South Division all-star team…Anybody else find it strange that the Southern League has a South Division? Of course that is not as strange as having a North Division. [Our Sports Central]

I think it worth mentioning that Joe Cruz also got 12 ground outs and just one fly out.

He is kind of reinforcing the impression he made last year at Princeton, giving up more hits than IP but not walking many (12BBs in 50.2IP) while striking out a lot of batters (54Ks).

This is a scouting report on Cruz from Rays Prospects. They have him as the 18th best prospect in the Rays' system in their 2009 report.
