Can the Rays find some way to make a trade that includes Matt DeSalvo going somewhere, anywhere? He has been killing us here in Durham.

What’s the deal with McGee? I thought we had all decided he was headed to the ‘pen when he came back. Obviously not the case, though, huh?

I am guessing that the Rays want to wait until absolutely necessary to determine whether he should be converted to relief. If he can succeed as a starter he become far more valuable, so why not see whether he can. If he cannot develop an effective or consistent off-speed pitch or has difficulty with stamina, they can easily move him into the bullpen.

Although there was a lot of talk before his injury about moving him to the bullpen, he never pitched in relief in the minors except for one time as an 18 year old in his second season. So while the decision was in the wind, no actual action had yet taken place to implement it.
