THE GOOD: Gabe o’ the Day. No home runs in the first 2 months but Gabe Kapler homered for the second straight game. This one proved to be the game-winner 1 pitch after the normally sure-handed Nick Johnson dropped a foul pop-up…Pat is Back. Nice to see Pat Burrell back in the lineup after missing 29 games.
THE BAD: Matt Garza. Garza struggled with his control, walking 4 in 5.2 innings…Tough Luck In AL East. In the span of 30 minutes both the Red Sox and Yankees went from what looked to be sure losses to victories. The umpires appeared to miss a game-winning home run for the Phillies and then refused to review the call and the Mets dropped a game-ending pop-up that allowed 2 runs to score for the Yankees win.
THE TELLING: Pat Burrell was back in the lineup but he was not in his customary 5-hole. Ben Zobrist batted 5th with The Bat hitting 6th.

Buffalo 1, Durham 0. Jason Cromer held Buffalo to 1 run in 6 innings but dropped to 1-2…Winston Abreu pitched the 8th inning, giving up 2 hits and striking out 2…Justin Ruggiano was 1-4 and is hitting .249 while Rhyne Hughes was 0-4 and is now hitting .182 since his promotion.
Montgomery 5, Chattanooga 4 (14). Game took 5 hours, 45 minutes and we are not even sure if that includes the 55 minute rain delay. We would love to know if there were more than 20 people in the stands at the end. It finally ended on a bases loaded single by Nevin Ashley, who caught all 14 innings…Desmond Jennings was 0-5 with 2 walks..Matt Fields had 2 singles and 3 Ks in 7 at bats with 2 RBI.
Dunedin 7, Charlotte 4. Alex Cobb dropped to 3-3 after allowing 7 runs in 5.1 innings…Jason Bartlett was 1-4 with a walk in his first rehab game as the DH. He will play shortstop today…Cody Cipriano was 1-4 with a double and an RBI. He is hitting .316…
Bowling Green 4, Lexington 2. This was the resumption of a game that was suspended after 1 inning the night before…Nick Barnese pitched the 1 inning on Thursday with Tyree Hayes working the next 4 innings on Friday. Hayes allowed 1 unearned run on 3 hits…Tim Beckham was 0-3 with a walk and a strikeout…Mike Sheridan was 0-4 with 2 Ks.
