Telling as well that the night after Shouse blows it, no one wants him to be the ousted one. Wheeler just seems like he’s serving up blasts left and right.
It’s time for Wheeler to go, Hickey needs to get over his buddy from Huston. When the official scorer doesn’t give him the win the other night that he was in line for, because he was ineffective, and gives it to Shouse instead, it time to go. Then last night a reliever has to be able to put out the fire Shouse gave up the hit, but it’s Wheeler job to make sure that that guy doesn’t score.
I’m sure someone will give the Rays something in return for him, a low level prospect or a bag of peanuts or something…
maybe 10 maple bats?
I suppose a bucket of batting practice balls would be more symbolic then peanuts…
They might find a taker for Wheeler if they are willing to eat most of his contract.
I’d like to see them drop J.P. and Cormier and go for the oldest bullpen in baseball. (just kidding)
Wheeler is a valuable cog, how quickly everyone forgets the fairly impressive numbers he recorded last season (3.12 ERA, 13 saves, 44 holds, allowing 23 earned runs over 66 innings, striking out 53)…
He’s not that bad, and worth more than prospects- although he is eating up some valuable payroll and should prob be dealt during the off-season.
I agree I still want Wheeler in the pen, but it’s tough to say who will end up going. They have too much mediocre pitching in the pen that if they cut one guy it’d seem like another guy should have gone, they’re all too comparable to me.
