Notes from Down on the Farm

  • Matt Joyce has missed the last two games with a tight hamstring but is expected to be in the lineup today. [Triangle Offense]
  • *Yawn* Desmond Jennings (above) is once again on the weekly “Prospect Hot Sheet.” [Baseball America]

Should we start charging Jennings rent for being a regular tenant here on Hot Sheet? Phone lines are open. The guy just keeps on tearing through the Southern League, with his latest escapade starting last Friday with a five-hit game that included three runs scored and a double. And get this: He’s hitting .468/.526/.596 (22-for-47) in May.

At what poitn does DJ get the bump to AAA?

    • My best guess is that he is in double-A until at least the all-star break. he still has very little professional experience and i think the Rays want a nice sized sample set before making the next jump.

and with Ruggiano and Joyce at triple-A, there isn’t a scenario in which Jennings could be needed at the big league level this season, so there is no need to rush the move to triple-A.
