Notes from Down on the Farm

  • Yesterday we pointed out that Desmond Jennings played right field for the first time and speculated that it might be to open his path to the big leagues. Today, Stacy Long confirms with quotes from double-A manager Billy Gardner. [Montgomery Advertiser]

Jennings is regularly a center fielder. The Biscuits will play him in right sporadically — and in left — to increase his major-league versatility. Gardner wouldn’t say when Jennings would play right again or how much he’ll play it this season.”I don’t think there’s any number,” Gardner said. “It’s at my discretion. There’s no program for it, but I think we’ll see him out there more than once a week.”

  1. GatorRaysHead says:

Davis threw 93 pitches in that game. What is his pitch count limit? Based on the 93, it looks like he is closer to being ready for a callup then Price at this point. What are the odds he gets the first callup if someone gets hurt/Sonny continues struggling/we need a spot start?

    • Thanks for pointing that out. That is interesting bc last I heard all of re starters had a 75-pitch limit. It looks lime Davis is the first to deviate, so I would think if someone were needed soon, he would be the guy. But it might not take Price long to catch up. So it depends on when someone is needed.
