NOTES FROM DOWN ON THE FARM…

  • The Rays signed the #1 overall pick, Tim Beckham to a minor league deal with a $6.15 million signing bonus. He will begin his pro career at rookie league affiliate Princeton where he will be paired with his older brother, Jeremy Beckham. The signing bunus exceeds the $5.6 million bonus David Price received a year ago. However, Price’s major league deal is worth at least $8.5 million. Beckham is not expected to make his debut until next week. [Fox Sports]

Anyone else listen to the game on the radio last night? Tim Beckham came up to the booth with Dave and Andy for a half an inning and seemed like a very down to earth kid. He was extremely polite, called them ‘sir’ more than once, and as they were going to commercial made sure to get in a big thanks to Mr Sternburg. Pretty much the polar opposite of the Delmon Young in his short time here, very nice to see.

he was on the TV broadcast also and it was pretty much the same thing. He must have called Staats “Sir” 50 times in 3 minutes.
