It’s Tuesday so it is time to update the Tampa Bay Rays Power Rankings. These rankings are a combination of overall importance to the team and a general “who’s hot and who’s not”, mixed with how we currently feel about and perceive each member of the team. It is by far, the least scientific thing we do on this site…

So what will happen when floyd returns, some sort of rightfield/DH platoon with Hinske/gross in right and gomes and floyd Dhing depending on who’s pitching.

the is a lot of left handed bats.

    my best guess is
    1. Haynes is DFAd
    2. 3-headed monster in RF/DH with Hinske/Floyd/Gomes
    3. Gross becomes the backup outfielder with 1-2 starts a week between the 3 OF spots and DH.

of course that all changes if somebody is traded. Hinske’s value is as high as it is probably going to get and he is only here on a 1-year deal. So he seems most logical. But do the Rays want to cut-bait on their best bat right now?

  3. Ben says:

yeah, it doesn’t seem like the right now to trade hinske now, he looks great at the plate and his defense doesn’t seem to be terrible. I wonder who we could get for hinske now, another bullpen arm? I can’t really think of anything we could need now.

the one thing the rays do need right now is a more dependable leadoff hitter. i have no idea who would be available, but an outfielder with a little speed and a strong OBP would be the ideal catch for Hinske
