Columbus 7, Durham 2. Chris Mason was victimized by the defense behind him. After only allowing 2 hits and 1 run in the first 5 innings, a botched grounder by Reid Brignac to start the 6th opened the flood gates leading to 3 more runs (2 unearned). Mason struck out 7…Fernando Perez was 0-4 with a walk and his 4th stolen base, while Brignac went 2-4 with a walk.

Montgomery 3, Tennessee 2. James Houser pitched 5 shutout innings, striking out 4 and walking none. He gave up only 2 hits, both singles, one on a drag bunt…Four Biscuits had 2 hits apiece, including Erold Andrus who also had his 6th double and 2 RBI.

Jupiter 8, Vero Beach 1. Josh Butler gave up 4 runs in 6.2 innings. He cruised through the first 6 innings, not allowing a run and setting down Jupiter 1-2-3 in 4 of those innings, but he could not escape the 7th…

Columbus 2, Rome 1. Three straight singles with 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th won the game for the Catfish. The final blow was off the bat of Omar Luna, who was 2-4 on the night…Josh Johnson made the start which always confuses us because the Rays just resigned the catcher Josh Johnson and assigned him to Durham. The catcher Johnson has actually done some occasional pitching in the Rays minor league system and until we see both Josh Johnsons in the same place we are not convinced they are different people.

NOTES FROM DOWN ON THE FARM…
