We are now less than two weeks away from Spring Training, so it is time to start taking a closer look at the 2008 Tampa Bay Rays. What better way to do that than a good ole fashion Power Ranking. Everybody loves Power Rankings. These rankings are a combination of overall importance to the team and a general “who’s hot and who’s not”. The Tampa Bay Rays Power Rankings will appear every Tuesday.

generally power rankings annoy me, but the images on this one are worth it. especially love the Juan Salas image.

    and BJ's? subtle. real subtle.

where's mitch lukevics? the director of minor league operations who was a major part of the yankees player development in the 90s and now has the best minor league organization in baseball?

Excellent point. Lukevics probably did deserve a mention. But his name is not really on the lips of Rays fans in general, and this list is also a reflection of who's hot/not among fans in general. that being said, you can be sure his name is on the lips of baseball people.

I agree with anonymous that Power Ratings are silly, unless, they are accompanied by witty comments or in this case images.

On a separate issue - I'm a bit surprised that your blog has not really caught on. IMO, it is one on the most informative on any time and I suspect that those who write for Hardball Times or Baseball Prospectus are like myself, who keep the Rays as a "guilty pleasure" - the team we secretly cheer for because of newer, smarter, administration. Indeed, in 2007, no lead, for Rays or opposition, was ever secure - even in blowouts! Talk about an exciting team!
