Rays Index is an independent sports blog, that covers The Tampa Bay Rays Professional Baseball Club as well as their minor league affiliates. Our goal is to provide breaking news and analysis on a daily basis, as well as critique the media coverage of the Tampa Bay Rays.





The Professor is Cork Gaines, the editor and lead writer for Rays Index. He is also a writer for MLB Trade Rumors. He is a Tampa native and University of Iowa graduate that is currently lost in New York City. Despite this, he still maintains his status as a Tampa Bay Buccaneers season ticket holder and often makes trips back to the Bay Area just because he has an urge for a grouper sandwich from Hurricane. In addition to Rays Index and MLB Trade Rumors, Cork has written for Deadspin, The Hardball Times, and wrote chapters in the "The Hardball Times 2007 Season Preview" and "The Hardball Times 2008 Season Preview". Outside of baseball writings, Cork has authored several scientific publications about whales and DNA that are written in a language even he does not understand.

Cork Gaines was named the recipient of the "2006 David Bloom Award".





Devil Ray Guevara is [EXPLICATIVE DELETED]. He is a Tampa native and a University of Florida graduate, that is probably lost on Clearwater Beach right now. He thinks Frenchy's grouper sandwich totally kicks Hurricane's ass.
